In a context of intense geopolitical tension where the price of natural gas has risen by 44% due to the conflict in Iran, the DeepScheduling project positions itself as a key tool for economic resilience. DeepScheduling aims to validate an artificial intelligence-based technology capable of reducing thermal downtime in furnaces by 10%, optimizing energy consumption at a time of extreme volatility in international markets.
Unlike traditional planning methods, DeepScheduling uses Explainable AI (XAI) algorithms to organize production sequences in plants such as Deutsche Edelstahlwerke (DEW). This optimization aims to allow industrial furnaces, which operate continuously with natural gas, to spend up to 10% less time idle. The least efficient part of the process, where fuel is burned simply to maintain thermal inertia without producing material, is eliminated.
This technical validation comes at a particularly critical time for the European energy market, following attacks in Iran that have caused the price of natural gas to skyrocket by 44%, reaching peaks of €69/MWh. With global supply under threat, DeepScheduling’s ambition to extract maximum value from every cubic metre of gas consumed could become a strategic advantage for European industry.
The results for the steel industry will be evaluated to assess the potential transfer of this model to other energy-intensive sectors, such as glass manufacturing and cement production, which are also under pressure from energy markets. The success of DeepScheduling will demonstrate that smart digitalization is the fastest way to decarbonize industry without sacrificing its economic viability.

Can artificial intelligence save the steel industry from the current energy crisis?🤔🌍⚙️
The conflict in Iran has put European industry on the ropes.
In the #DeepScheduling project, we have a clear answer: if we cannot control the price of energy, we must optimize every second of its use. 🚀
How do we plan to achieve this? Through explainable AI algorithms #XAI, we aim to validate a solution capable of:
✅Reducing thermal downtime in industrial furnaces by 10%. 📈
✅Direct savings: Less downtime = less gas burned without producing material and less impact on costs. 💸
✅Strategic AI: Digitization to strengthen our industry against geopolitical uncertainty. 🦾
Technology not only reduces emissions; it also protects the competitiveness of our factories.
Do you think that optimization through AI is the key to the industry’s survival in this decade of change?
